MUZIUM LOUVRE

  • The Louvre Museum (France : Musée du Louvre) is one of the largest and most visited French museums and monuments in the world.
  • The museum is located within the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre), which was originally a fort built during the late 12th century under the reign of King Philippe II.
  • The museum was opened on August 10, 1793 with an exhibit of 537 paintings, most of his work was seized from the church and the royal property.
  • "Louvre" mean overlapping strips in a window (to let in air but keep out rain), first recorded 1550s. The form has been influenced by apparently unrelated French Louvre, the name of the palace in Paris, which is said to be so named because its builder, Philip Augustus, intended it as a wolf kennel.
  • The Louvre Palace is almost a rectangular structure, comprising Cour Carree square and two wings wrapped in Cour Napoleon in the north and south.
  • In the middle of the compound is the Louvre Pyramid, above the visitor center.
  • The museum is divided into three wings : Sully Wing in the east, containing the Cour Carree and the oldest parts of the Louvre, Richelieu wing to the north, and the Denon Wing, which borders the Seine to the south.
  • In 1983, French President François Mitterrand proposed the Grand Louvre plan to renovate the building and transfer the Ministry of Finance, allowing the display along the building.
  • Architects I. M. Pei was awarded the project and proposed a glass pyramid for a centralized inner site.
  • The pyramids and underground lobby were executed on October 15, 1988.
  • The second phase of the Grand Louvre, La Pyramide Inversée (Pyramid Disongsang), was terminated in 1993.
  •  In 2002, the presence has been doubled since the settlement.
  • Entry fee: Can buy online at specified time (eg 12.30) for 17 Euros.
  • Guaranteed entry within 30 minutes.
  • Wheelchairs for the elderly and disabled are available free of charge.
